Whoopie Goldberg Signs New Deal with the View

Raven-Symone along with Michelle Collins and Candace Cameron-Bure will soon announce their departure from Daytimes hit talk show “The View”. Meanwhile Whoopie Goldberg has signed a $2.5 million deal to return to the show for it’s 20th season which will begin in September.

HBO is bringing “The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks” to the small screen and Oprah is set to star as Henrietta, a poor African America Baltimore mother of five, who died of cervical cancer in 1951 at age 31.

Without her family’s knowledge her cancerous cells were removed from her body and cultured for medical research by doctors at Johns Hopkins, which led to significant breakthroughs in medical research, ranging from aiding the development of the cure for polio to AIDS-related treatments.

Wendy Raquel Robinson’s Amazing Grace Conservatory Pays Tribute Prince In New Production, “Goodbye Birdie”

Wendy Raquel Robinson and her Amazing Grace Conservatory (AGC) will hit the stage in their spring production of “Goodbye Birdie”—based on the 1963 American musical comedy film, “Bye Bye, Birdie” —at The Nate Holden Performing Arts Center, at 4718 West Washington Blvd, on Saturday, May 14th at 7:30pm and Sunday, May 15th at 7:00pm.

It is the classic show revamped with musical hits from Prince and Anita Baker including fresh and original vocal arrangements from the film including, “Bye, Bye Birdie,” “Put On a Happy Face,” and “One Boy” just to name a few.

Prince's Purple Reign Continues

Just as in life, the Purple One is reigning in death topping the album charts as fans and mourners seem to have snatched up everything Prince in the days following his death and Prince hits—most notably “Purple Rain”, “When Doves Cry” and “The Very Best of Prince”—have dominated the charts.

Over one million song sales were recorded on Thursday alone. That’s dramatically up from the 18,800 sold just a week before his death. Sales soaring to 2.3 million units by the end of the third day, with the artist holding down 19 of the 20 top albums in Amazon's digital music store and 13 of the top 20 album slots on iTunes.

Black Woman Appointed President of ABC

When the dust had cleared from ABC Entertainment’s latest regime change, the network’s head of drama, Channing Dungey, was named the new president,  the promotion making her the first African American to head a major broadcast network.

Disney co-chairman Ben Sherwood made the announcement.

"Channing is a gifted leader and a proven magnet for top creative talent, with an impressive record of developing compelling, breakthrough programming that resonates with viewers, "Sherwood said .
