Mary Mary Get Painfully Personal In their Upcoming Third Season
In the June issue of Ebony Magazine, Mary Mary’s Tina Campbell may have publicly addressed her husband’s past infidelities, but this fall on the third season of WE tv’s “The Mary Mary Show,” Tina will open up about the hurt and pain she endured. Campbell, 39, is married to gospel drummer Teddy Campbell, 38, who has also worked as the percussionist for "The Tonight Show" with Jay Leno.
"I'm assuming that many of you have seen or heard about our article in Ebony that discussed the challenges of overcoming infidelity in our marriage," the singer wrote on behalf of both herself and her husband. "Well since the article, the challenges have worsened. My hope turned into hopelessness and despair and I became unwilling to forgive and fight, until God showed me myself. My husband's struggle was with sexual immorality but I have struggled with anger, rage, forgiveness, pride, just to name a few, for over two decades."
"Instead of being mad at each other we're mad at the devil and we're ready to fight," wrote the singer who blamed the devil for using strongholds from the couple's individual childhoods to break them apart.
The series will also key in on sister Erica's challenges in going solo as well as the group's issues with former manager, Mitchell Solarek, who sued them for $75,000 in outstanding commissions.
Back On Top
Keeping the focus 100% on God and letting the Holy Spirit lead the way is what is behind the success of William McDowell’s latest CD, Withholding Nothing, which debuted at #1 on the iTunes Christian and Gospel Top Albums chart with its release last month.
“The focus is 100 percent on God and what He’s saying, and the songs just happen the way they happen…we rehearsed, we prepared, but in the end, the Holy Spirit led the evening,” says McDowell, the lead pastor at Orlando’s Deeper Fellowship Church.
The ASCAP Award winning, Stellar and Dove nominated artist behind #1 Gospel hits such as “I Give Myself Away” and “I Won’t Go Back,” ranks #1 on the Current Gospel Overall chart and has reached #2 on Billboard’s Top Christian/Gospel Albums chart and ranks #28 on Billboard’s top 200 with his latest release. The CD also features the vocal talents of Steve Crawford and Da’dra Greathouse (Anointed) on “Standing”, worship and praise leaders Jason Nelson and BJ Putnam on “I Surrender All” and “Ask” respectively, gospel artists Josh Dufrene and Daniel Johnson on “Song of Intercession,” and Tyler Richardson and LaRue Howard on “Come Unto Me.”
“What transpired that night was unforgettable,” said Hart Ramsey. “This new CD/DVD is insane!!!!! It’s more than a P&W CD/DVD. It’s a Weapon of Intercession.” McDowell is currently on tour for Withholding Nothing.
BMI To Honor Daryl Coley and Richard Smallwood
Congratulations are in order for Daryl Coley and Richard Smallwood, who have been selected as the honorees at BMI’s 15th annual Trailblazers of Gospel Music Awards Luncheon. The annual invitation-only event held in conjunction with Stellar Awards weekend 2014—and drawing the industry’s leading executives as well as its biggest names—is one of the most prestigious on the gospel industry calendar.
Both Coley and Smallwood couldn’t be more deserving. Coley’s multi-decade career began as singer with Edwin Hawkins, which led to being a songwriter and musical director for Tramaine Hawkins. Lead vocal appearances on recordings for James Cleveland’s Gospel Music Workshop of America resulted in Coley’s solo debut, Just Daryl. What followed was a string of Stellar, Dove and Grammy award nominations for career-defining albums including Beyond the Veil: Live at Bobby Jones Gospel XIII and Oh, the Lamb. Coley has worked with such industry legends as Stevie Wonder, Nancy Wilson and Philip Bailey. After more than three decades as one of the most popular inspirational artists in the music business, with classic tunes such as “Total Praise,” “Center of My Joy,” and “I Love the Lord” to his credit GRAMMY-nominated, Stellar and Dove award-winning songwriter and musician, Richard Smaillwood continues to enjoy widespread popularity and influence. His songs have been recorded by Whitney Houston, Chaka Khan, Destiny’s Child and many others…Finally, the Canton Spirituals, led by Harvey Watkins, Jr. mark their return to the Malaco Music Group with the release this month of the new full length album, Keep Knocking.
