Tavis Smiley Announces New Slate of Deals

      Less than one month after PBS indefinitely suspended the long-running nightly talk show, Tavis Smiley, The Smiley Group, Inc., has announced multiple new deals across an assortment of platforms aimed at reaching a broader, younger and more international audience.

      “Every crisis presents us an opportunity,” said the award-winning talk show host. “I look forward to speaking with a louder, clearer voice to even more people. There is just too much going on that demands our immediate attention.”

      The 53-year old broadcaster has signed on to host a new online series called “The Upside with Tavis Smiley,” to commence the second quarter 2018. The series— to “celebrate the spirit of resilience and the power to overcome that resides in each of us”— will be distributed over various devices and platforms including: Apple TV, Amazon Fire, Roku, Xbox, Chromecast, iOS, Android, desktop, notebook, etc., with a total universe of more than 500 million viewers.

Charles Jenkins Receives Early Christmas Gift

      Charles Jenkins & Fellowship Chicago Ft. Le’Andria have received an early Christmas gift. Their uplifting, finger-snapping, retro R&B-flavored cut, “Grace” (Inspired People/Empire), hits the top spot on both the Billboard (up from No. 2 last week) and Mediabase (up from No. 3 last week) Gospel Airplay charts this week. It marks the eighth unique Billboard No. 1 for the Chicago-based pastor, Jenkins, over the course of his five-year career as a recording artist. The song also makes its first appearance in the Top Ten on the Billboard Digital Gospel Songs (sales) chart, coming in at No. 10.

Marvin Sapp Humbled by Grammy/NAACP Image Award Nominations

 “Even after more than 25 years in the music business, award nominations are an exciting and a tremendous honor,” said award-winning gospel star Marvin Sapp of recent nominations for both the 60th annual Grammy Awards and the 49th NAACP Image Awards. Sapp’s GRAMMY nomination is for Best Gospel Album, and he is nominated for Outstanding Gospel/Christian Album for the 49th NAACP Image Awards. This marks his 11th GRAMMY nomination, and his fourth NAACP Image Award nomination. Both nods are in recognition of his 11th album, “Close”, which was released September 29th on Verity Records. “Close” delivered Sapp’s fifth consecutive #1 album debut.
