Diddy Wants to Make History With Purchase of Carolina Panthers; Would Put Kaepernick Back In The Game

In what is being reported as a serious bid to purchase the Carolina Panthers, P. Diddy is meeting with potential investors—including former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick and Golden State Warriors star Steph Curry— to shape a prospective ownership group.

Word came that the rap mogul was interested in purchasing the Charlotte, North Carolina-based NFL franchise when earlier this month owner Jerry Richardson announced he was putting up his share of the franchise for sale at the end of the season following sexual harassment and workplace misconduct allegations.
“I believe it is time to turn the franchise over to new ownership," Richardson said in a letter on the Panther’s website
While it’s not known what the pricetag for the team would be, it’s value has been set by Forbes Magazine at somewhere in the neighborhood of $2.3 billion.
With an estimated net worth of $800+ million, Diddy having the money is not as much in question as how serious he is in owning an NFL team, though he recently tweeted, “ATTN all @NFL owners, it’s time for diversity!! It’s time for Black ownership!! The time is now. Let’s make it happen!!”
Kaepernick, however, is serious and is said to be reaching out to a handful of business leaders, venture capitalists and sports icons to discuss an ownership group that would reflect the racial makeup of the league’s players, which is about 70 percent African-American, according to Yahoo Sports.
Also said to be serious about a possible bid is Steph Curry, a longtime fan of the team, who tweeted that he wanted in on the deal as well.
Should he prevail, Diddy has said he would give Kaepernick a shot at the quarterback position, posting on Instagram, “I will be the best NFL owner that you can imagine. I will immediately address the Colin Kaepernick situation and put him in the running for next year’s starting quarterback.”
Cam Newton, the team’s quarterback, though against Richardson selling the team, said he was open to the idea of Kaepernick in the running should the purchase go through.
