TV One Founder/Chair Cathy Hughes To Be Honored at 20th Annual First Ladies High Tea
Urban One/TV One founder and chair Cathy Hughes is set to receive the Legacy Award at L.A. Focus’ 20th Annual First Ladies High Tea. Hughes, who launched her Radio One (now Urban One) empire in 1980 with the purchase of WOL-AM radio station in Washington D.C.,

 

is one of the nation’s foremost black businesswomen, making history as the first Black woman to chair a publicly-held corporation when she took Radio One public.  
    “I am truly honored and humbled to be counted among the number of distinguished women who have been recognized over the years as part of the First Ladies Tea,” Hughes said. 
      Urban One, Inc., formerly known as Radio One, together with its subsidiaries, is the largest diversified media company that primarily targets Black Americans and urban consumers in the United States. The Company owns TV One, a television network serving more than 59 million households, offering a broad range of original programming, classic series and movies designed to entertain and inspire a diverse audience of Black viewers.
      As one of the nation's largest radio broadcasting companies, Urban One currently owns and/or operates 57 broadcast stations in 15 urban markets in the United States.       The First Ladies High Tea will take place on Saturday, November 11 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel where she will be honored along with gospel superstar CeCe Winans, Congresswoman Karen Bass and first ladies Regina Taylor (Park Windsor Baptist Church, Patricia Swancy (Peace Apostolic Church) and Morgen Wilbourne (Pacific Crossroads Church).
